That quote remains as true it is today as it was when it was espoused in 5th Century BC; and especially true in our modern competitive landscape of business and management. A company cannot afford to solely focus on business as usual activities, investment in professional training and development is a necessity to equip yourself and your company to face the challenges of the business world especially in developing markets.

In the era of big data, managers and professionals can no longer expect that functional excellence alone within his or her sphere as sufficient for an organization’s success. An effective manager has to understand the related functions and be able to effectively utilize the knowledge to come up with optimal solutions. For example a finance professional will ideally have commercial acumen and the ability to motivate a team of professionals under his or her leadership.

Yet we are aware that mere training alone will not suffice to hone the skills needed to effectively compete in this global environment.
